Welcome

Schools exist within larger communities, a contributing factor to the successes experienced at Academy for Discovery at Lakewood since its opening in 2015.  Those who enter Lakewood’s doors each day are members of communities throughout the city of Norfolk and the surrounding Hampton Roads area. Students and their families choose to attend Lakewood through a district-monitored application and lottery process. Teachers also choose to work at Lakewood, understanding during interviews that ADL offers new and challenging opportunities. Finally, as an IB World School, Lakewood’s community extends across the globe. These community connections contribute to learning for all of our stakeholders.  This blog strives to strengthen those connections and to inform community members about Academy for Discovery at Lakewood’s philosophy, purpose, and practices.
